Hello Folks,
We've got some news, that effects you all.
We will be converting our Simplemachines forum to the flarum platform.
At some point (most likely within the span of the next couple of months) we will be moving to a new forum platform called Flarum.
(This is what the new forum looks like: discuss.flarum.org)
SimpleMachines forum (SMF) platform has served us well but lacks many features we require in order to grow our community.
How will does this effect you?:
YOU MUST SAVE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
- You will need to save your private messages (PM). This is because Flarum does not support them by default. This is done using a plugin on Flarum.
- Don't worry, we will install this extension to allow members to send PM's. However we will not be transferring your old messages across to the new flarum platform.
- Save your "My Favourites" bookmarks (menu > my favourites)
Why can't you save our PM's?
This is due to various reasons, one of them being Flarum does not support them by default. Also the cost , time, file-size, data-protection, GDPR etc, it's not worth it.
- Your forum posts, usernames, passwords (encrypted) will be saved so you don't need to worry about those things.
- This forum will still be running alongside the new platform to ensure a smooth transition.
Hang on there kind sir, you told me you were going to update SMF to 2.1 version?
Whilst SMF is a good platform, it lacks a number of modern day features which we need to grow.
The choice was either spending £3-5k building a modern theme or simply move to a platform which has them by default.
Any questions? Please post below. Happy to discuss.
