1. Death note

Mind you I was tricked into watching this by one of my mates. He told me it's about a college student who rapes a woman and goes onto become a serial killer. Naturally, like anyone here became intrigued. Once I saw the first episode, I couldn't put it down.

2. Code Geass

If you've seen death note and loved it, spoiler alert... but hated it's ending. This is the anime to watch afterwards.

3. torn between deadman wonderland and fullmental alchemist.

Not as good as 1. and 2. but a decent watch if bored.

Probably very mainstream for the weeaboos on here but whatever, fuck you:

**3. PokÃ©mon:** I was like 9 when this stuff exploded here in Germany so I was the perfect age to get trapped by the mindless consumerism of PokÃ©mon. Loved the anime, loved the trading cards, loved the games. I recently rewatched the first episode and it still holds up. I still followed it when the second generation of PokÃ©mon came around but after that it became a little lame.

**2. Digimon:** While Digimon fell short on the merchandise end of things compared to PokÃ©mon, I think it was a much better anime. PokÃ©mon was fun but really lacked the overarching plot of Digimon which in turn made you that much more emotionally invested in Digimon's characters and story. The first two seasons were epic, the second one being my favorite. Didn't care for season three but Frontiers was fun again. (Probably because of the bellybutton tickling scene.)

**1. Dragon Ball (Z):** It took me a while to get into Dragon Ball (the original series) but when I got into it, I loved it. So much that me and my brother bought all 42 mangas which I just tore through. But as soon as the DBZ part started my love was turned into religious obsession, comparable only to the other two "great loves" of my childhood (Godzilla & Pro Wrestling). DBZ to me is just pure, condensed awesome. I never really got into GT because it only started airing way after my DBZ phase and then it was just way too kiddyish for me.

Notable mentions: Highschool of the Dead, Case Closed and for some reason I really liked Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne.

#4. Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu. Basically the funniest anime I've seen. It's based on a serious anime, Full Metal Panic, but then turns it into a comedy. Lot of laughs (and bellies) ensue.

#5. Dirty Pair Flash. A pair of bounty hunter girls in the future. Cheeky comedy and sci-fi action (and bellies) ensue.

And one last honorable mention: Love Hina. One guy in a harem of six girls, he gets beat up by them in every episode. Him getting punched into orbit after seeing them in various stages of undressing (including bare bellies) ensue.

I'm not really into much anime, there's only two that I've really stuck with. A friend had me sit and watch the entirety of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which I loved because of how ridiculous it got (and how aware of this the writers were). The other one that I've really been into is Hellsing Ultimate (the OVA, not the regular series). Currently waiting for the final two episodes to get dubbed in English -- yes, damn me if you must, the subbed versions are almost always better, but I just fell in love with the English voice acting, especially Alucard's.

Yes, again as a non-anime watcher, Hellsing is fantastic, if you can handle unbelievable amounts of blood (it's probably one of the bloodiest things I've ever watched, animated or not). Just make sure it's the 10-episode Hellsing Ultimate OVA, not the regular anime series. OVA is a pretty direct adaptation of the manga and is visually beautiful and well written, the series is just okay at best.

@Sodo Arh man, same here. The ending killed it for me and my mates who told me about the show. We simply ignored the ending and pretended it finished with L died in season one 8) damn that M though...

@Schattenu @Mikebrokelyn, just saw the Hellsing & Eureka Seven intros. They look exciting, especially 'Hellsing' which reminds me of Deadman Wonderland.

Gotta admit that cought my attention, but I can't see myself watching an anime anytime soon. Got too many TV shows to watch first.

Old thread, I know, but someone managed to convince me to watch another anime. I absolutely have to recommend Monster. I'm not very far into it, only on episode 20 out of 74, but it's so well written so far. Nothing really fantastical about it, it's pretty much a psychological thriller. Episodes are only about 20-25 minutes, so the first three or four are just the major introductions. But it's a very, very interesting look into the psyche of people, and what drives people to become things like a serial killer, if you're into that sort of thing.

@Schattenu I am on Ep 30 currently, I have been there for two months... the "fillers" will get to you, other than that, the storyline and plot are pretty awesome and the anime keeps you guessing of what's about to happen next. BUT, the fillers omg, just shoot me please! xD

A little advise, if you haven't yet passed the episode where an old couple break down in the middle of nowhere with Tenma and the kid... skip that episode or watch 5 mins of the ending. You'll thank me later Schattenu.

I actually watched that one the other day lol, up to episode 29 myself. I actually haven't had much issue with the "filler" so far, because I get the distinct impression that it's important (in some way) in the long run, even if it's just to add to the show's overall theme. I think I realized what they were trying to do with the filler in the episode where he was in the little village helping people with the local doctor. The whole thing seems to explore the idea of when people are pushed to the edge in certain circumstances, who becomes a monster, and who rises above it? With the two extremes obviously being Tenma and Johan.

That's my interpretation so far, at least. I can see how a lot of people would be frustrated with the abrupt changes to entirely new characters for episodes at a time, but so far, all of those instances have come back down to Tenma and/or Johan in some capacity.

Edit: That being said, just watched episode 30... Have you actually seen that episode, or did you leave off after 29? Because the proverbial shit just hit the proverbial fan at the end of this one lol

Lol I just went back to check, I have seen episode 30 and now, I am watching epsiode 31. If I complete this anime, I will consider it a life time achievement. ;D Schattenu, what episode are you on, it doesn't look like you have got very far and this worries me. xD

I actually finished it like a week ago lol. I can see how some might be a little frustrated with the ending, but I liked it. Hell of a climax the last couple of episodes, which is the Ruhenheim arc. The "filler" does actually fit in, in the long run. It's not any one moment where all these random parts click together in a perfect chain, but they do have a fairly important effect in one way or another.

I have already gone too deep into the overall plot and I love the characters. There's no turning back for me now. I will finish this anime but it'll take me time. :-\
