I'm trying to avoid judging it instantly just because of this or that, mostly in hopes that lessons will be learned someday in the Hollywood sphere. I hope these kinds of identity politic issues where things are shoved down throats will ideally be nipped in the bud sooner rather than later, so to speak, because in my opinion, the CONCEPT is perfectly serviceable, but the execution is lackluster, to say the least. It's unfortunate that they persist to this day, especially when there are examples of movies and shows where these kinds of problems aren't there. :/
I can understand why fans of Tolkien might find the choices to be strange, of course, given the established canon from the six mainline movies. The original trilogy was amazing, and I enjoyed the Hobbit trilogy - I think it's unfortunate that the created character Tauriel was forced into some silly romance angle (I'm blaming the executives for that), because otherwise, she fit in well with the story and was a good counterpart for Legolas. Still, it's not that I don't comprehend at least some of the upset.
I dunno, I just want to avoid being overly skeptical yet, I suppose.
