I disagree, and find the extra five points to be completely unnecessary. I go by the old rating system that Netflix went by:
1 star = hated it.
2 stars = didn't like it.
3 stars = liked or was indifferent to it.
4 stars = really liked it.
5 stars = loved it.
Part of my issue is that there has never been (and never will be, I admit) a film perfect enough for me to give it a perfect score. I know this isn't a thing for most people but even with movies or video games that I absolutely love I still feel guilty giving all the stars on the scale because there are still things that I'll obsessively nitpick. I scene could have been edited better or an actor could have delivered a line better or the music might have sounded better if it had hit slightly different notes.
Yeah, I'm severely OCD, I know. What do you want me to tell you?
Anyway, this means that the movies I love the most would get four stars but a lot of films I don't love but still really like would only get three stars since anything below would be net negative. There are movies I've seen and enjoyed but have no desire to ever watch again (Liam Neeson's Unknown for example) which are still net positive that now have no rating for me to give them.
Therefore my rating system is as follows (might add a .1 - .9 for even further specifics):
1 star = watching it made me want to die (never seen anything THAT bad and probably and hopefully never will)
2 stars = watching it scarred me for life (never seen anything that bad either... yet)
3 stars = minutes out of my life that I will NEVER get back
4 stars = still pretty bad but had a few decent or even cool moments here and there
5 stars = not bad but not good either and I'm indifferent to it
6 stars = I liked it overall but will probably never watch it again
7 stars = I enjoyed it very much and may buy a copy for my home library one day if I see it for cheap
8 stars = I really liked it a lot and will definitely add it to my library at some point or another
9 stars = I loved the hell out of it and will buy a copy for my library immendiately
10 stars = it's the most amazing thing of ALL TIME (never seen anything that good and sadly and probably never will)
