My usual random thoughts on the latest season (caution -- spoilers ahead):
- I kinda thought Shiro would be gone longer than he was, but I'm glad he's back.
- The Lions suddenly rejecting their original pilots seems like a bit of a contrivance so far to get back to how the lineup was for most of the original series, but we'll see how it plays out.
- So they alluded to Sven after all in this series rather than completely replace his identity with Shiro! :)
- Glad to see them keep Lotor's character almost entirely in line with the way he was in the original series, i.e. the smarmy, dangerous tactician who's also a real ladies man (hence his all-female band of minions, presumably). Will he also develop a fixation on Allura?
- Even gladder to see Lance finally grow up a bit and resemble something closer to what he was in the original series (when he was my favorite character). He's not there yet, but this was encouraging.
- We need to talk about Throk. It's interesting the writers chose to give that character the same name as the one who ultimately arguably became the main villain of the Vehicle Voltron series (once Hazar decided to try to achieve peace with the Space Explorers). Were they meant to be one and the same? I'd certainly hope so if they're intending play some kind of long game here, and presumably this won't be the last we see of him (I'm still hoping to see Sendak again at some point -- not to mention Mogor and/or Cossack making their debuts).
I was initially disappointed there were only 7 episodes, but then I saw more are coming in October. Can't wait! :D
