I'm a big Trek fan, but unfortunately, I don't think Trek will ever really return to the glory days of TNG and DS9. In my opinion, none of the new films have that intangible "Trek-ness" that separates Star Trek from other sci-fi. They're all entertaining, and there's a fair amount of fanservice, but they don't feel like... *Trek. They feel like space action movies with a Trek veneer. Where's the philosophy? Where's the exploration of space, and the exploration of the human condition? Or to put it more succinctly, where is the depth*? I'll happily eat up any new Star Trek series that comes along, but I fear that none will ever reach the heights that Picard, Data, Sisko and Dax did back when Trek was Trek.
