Here's my rundown of thoughts on the Emmy wins:
Game of Thrones wins Best Drama, not surprising, considering it's the most talked about thing on TV, if you don't count Stranger Things. Veep wins Best Comedy, but I was rooting for black-ish or Master of None. So glad Tatiana Maslany finally won Best Actress in a Drama, considering she plays something like 12 roles on Orphan Black. Also glad Rami Malek won Best Actor in a Drama, more shocking is that he's the first non-white actor to win that award in 18 years! Key and Peele thankfully won Best Comedy and Variety Show, because SNL is highly overrated and long overstayed its welcome decades ago, likewise, Last Week Tonight wins Best Variety Talk Show And Writing for a Variety Series, since he's now surpassed The Daily Show, which has gone to hell ever since Jonathan Stewart left it.
Good on Patton Oswalt for winning Best Writing on a Variety Special, it's probably bittersweet for him, since his wife died the same weekend the special aired on Netflix. The whole People vs OJ Simpson, I never watched it, because I lived through when the actual trial happened, I didn't need to be reminded about it. Plus, I hear they paid too much attention to the pre-fame Kardashian family in it. Little disappointed Transparent won Best Comedy Actor again, I was rooting for Anthony Anderson and Aziz Ansari, likewise I was rooting for Tracee Ellis Ross for Best Comedy Actress, but hey, there's always next year. And Master of None winning Best Writing for a Comedy Series was well deserved.
Overall, good to see Netflix is getting more Emmy love. Lots of wins that were well deserved and overdue, but there's still some room for improvement.
