That Wikipedia article lists many examples of navels appearing prominently in religion, artifacts, modern media, and traditional and modern dress, among other things.
It definitely seems to say "the navel, especially the female navel, has a definite and complex place Indian culture" but it seems like it doesn't really flesh out any part of what that place is.
