Does anyone feel we are slowly reverting back to the 50's?

It's hard to find girls showing their belly buttons...I see more male belly buttons in hot weather than female belly buttons. A big part of the reason is that womens shirts are getting longer and longer. I remember in the 2000s girls used to wear much tighter clothes which means if she stretched then that girl's belly button was exposed. Period. Guys also used to wear longer clothes than women but things seem to have flipped in the 2010s.

Now girls are basically wearing shirts to their kness unless they have specific intention to show thier stomach (sadly half the time they are wearing those stupid high waisted pants)

Honestly, I think it all comes down to where you live in the world. Each location and each woman is going to have their own styles. Just last month, I was seeing girls wearing cropped tops (yes, cropped tops, not shirts that stopped below the bellybutton) without wearing high-waisted pants that went up to their ribs. While some girls might be going out of their way to cover up in one place, there's probably another location where they are wearing cropped tops and knotted shirts. That place not going to be around the corner, you might have to look for it. However, fall and winter are around the corner, so now is really not the time of the season to complain about girls being navel shy.

Believe it or not the weather is still warm here. It was 82 today and it'll be upper 70's tomorrow.

This isn't the average thread where I'm just complaining that girls don't show their belly buttons, but I feel like it's trendy for women to wear very long shirts, which scares me for future years.

I see what you mean though. Maybe it is just my city. Oh well.

In the UK if the summer is out atleast, you'll see many women baring their stomachs but this will mostly be to enjoy the weather and get a nice tan. Some will get their bellies pierced in the summer for this very reason.

it probably has something to do with their selfesteem all of these slim wemen on tv are treated like their the only type thats attractive. wemen in general don't know if they are truly attractive. they know the new form, hour glass.

As I mentioned in another thread, it's almost as if people are starting to view the female bellybutton as a sort of 'sub-private part,' for some reason. Truly baffling. :-[

Yes, it is a terrible article. Thankfully, it's from 8 or 9 years ago, so it's outdated. As of late, we've had girls like Lily Collins, Victoria Justice, Rita Ora, and Kendal Jenner wearing cropped tops almost everyday, so the trend is not completely dead. But I must confess, I truly believe articles like this are written by either women or gay men who are either jealous of or not turned on by the sight of a bare bellied girl. Don't bother with what fashion "experts" say, 99.9% of the time, it's just THEIR opinion or what the people in the industry want them to say.

But as time goes by, I definitely notice the fashion-forward, fitter and flatter-belly girls are having waist bands get lower.

Now in Cali you are considered edgy with low-rise on. The popular girls are doin it!

I'm looking forward to when slightly chubby girls start wearing them again too.🙂 Things aren't as bad as two years ago, so in 2â€“3 years, mom and boyfriend jeans will be out.

I live in north England and get to see plenty of bellies all year round here. I went into my local bar on Sunday evening and last night and the same barmaid was in with low rise pants on and a sports bra. Unfortunately she had a piercing in tho, Iâ€™ve seen her without the piercing in previously in there tho . And often when I walk round Manchester shopping centre anytime of the year will see a few bare midriffs. Best ever sighting was a few years ago when on a really hot day I caught a 17-18 year old rolling her top up so it was a tiny crop top she caught me looking I think but didnâ€™t seem to mind.

As long as bellybuttons don't end up becoming almost completely sexualized by society the way that breasts pretty much have (and, thus, will have to go back to totally being covered up again), I'm fine with things.

I would say it is more like the 1990s where it is predominately high rise pants with the occasional belly baring mid rise pants.

The early part of the 2010s seems like a reverse transition between the 2000s low rise and the 90s mid-high rise.

In fact here is an episode of Family Guy where they mention 90s pants as “jeans up to their navels”. At 0:40.
